2022 AAOE State Leadership Academy
Please read the complete overview of the program and participant obligations which includes payment of a small registration fee and meeting requirements.

Purpose:
The purpose of the AAOE State Leadership Academy is to support orthopaedic practice administrators and managers early in their career with access to leadership training and tools to enhance their professional development. The Program is also designed to support State AAOE Chapters while providing early exposure to AAOE Programs and Services for emerging leaders.
Program Overview:
The AAOE State Leadership Academy will combine required text reading, distance learning activities, advocacy engagement, and a personal project designed to advance the participant’s career. Participants completing the course will be able to add AAOE Leadership Academy to their resumes.
Eligibility:
The 2022 Leadership Academy Class will consist of 10 participants who are recommended or sponsored by their State or Regional AAOE Chapters. Participants must be members of their State or Regional AAOE Chapters.
Registration Process and Fees:
Participants will apply to participate through their State or Regional AAOE Chapters. Application links will be distributed to Chapter members and must be submitted by March 1, 2022. Members are encouraged to share the link with emerging leaders in their organizations. Participants will be notified of their acceptance by March 15, 2022. Once accepted, participants will be required pay a $250 registration fee to their respective State/Regional AAOE Chapter.
Required Assessment & Reading:
Participants will be required to complete an assessment tool and a book on leadership as noted below, at additional cost to the participant: Gallup Strengths Finder Assessment ($49.99 for full 34 theme report)
Program Communications:
The AAOE will host a Private Group on its Collaborate platform for current participants and Alumni of the State Leadership Development Academy. The AAOE, State Chapter Staff, and Program Faculty will use this platform to distribute articles of interest and reminders of upcoming events.
Program Events and Dates:
Participants are required to participate in all the events listed below. Excused absences will be provided for extraordinary situations.
1. Introductory Happy Hour via Zoom
Exact date/time TBD: likely the first week of April
Join us for a virtual social hour to meet other participants in the 2022 AAOE State Leadership Academy.
2. AAOE Annual Meeting Participation Collaborate Chicago | Hyatt Regency Chicago | April 29 – May 2, 2022
Leadership Academy participants are expected to attend the AAOE Annual Meeting. Current participants, Leadership Academy alumni, AAOE and State Chapter staff will gather at least once during the conference. Registration for the AAOE Annual Meeting will be waived, however, participants are required to pay for their travel and hotel for this event.
3. Distance Learning Modules (1-Hour Webinars)
Instructor: Laurie K. Baedke, FACHE, FACMPE
Laurie will lead us through a dynamic curriculum of four modules listed below. Each module includes the webinar itself, 2-3 corresponding articles or TEDTalks related to the webinar topic, and a 1-page worksheet of reflection questions for participant consideration following the session. All material will be available on the Collaborate Platform and ongoing discussion among participants is encouraged in that setting.
4. Tentative: AAOE Capitol Hill Day | Washington, DC | Fall 2022
If this event occurs, participants will engage in Capitol Hill visits as well as a Leadership Academy recap. Registration for the event will be waived, but participants will pay for their hotel and travel.
5. AAOE State Chapter Engagement
Participants are encouraged to attend their State or Regional AAOE Chapter Annual Meetings to participate in a Leadership Exchange with the Board of Directors of their local Chapters.
Career Road Map
Participants will work with our facilitator to develop a Career Road Map based on their experiences in this program and their future professional goals.
